    Boxwood is built almost entirely from recycled shipping containers and aims to provide a highly modern industrial design venue relevant to our generation.  

  • How many event guests can Boxwood accomodate?

    We can accommodate up to 140 ceremony and reception guests depending on which space is requested.

    • For wedding receptions in the Glass Atrium - we can accommodate up to 100 Cocktail style and 60 seated.
    • For wedding receptions in the Galleria - up to 150 Cocktail and 100 seated.
  • What are your thoughts on Green Events?

    Boxwood believes in hotel sustainability and eco-friendly travel options.


    Conserving Energy: Boxwood runs on solar energy, uses high energy rating appliances and LED lighting.


    Limiting Waste: Boxwood is built mostly with recycled shipping containers and building materials. All accommodation provides eco-friendly tote bags and natural toiletries, and is cleaned using natural products. Boxwood also recycles rain and grey water to irrigate our gardens.

  • Are there adequate bathroom facilities?

    We hope so.

    • For wedding receptions in the Glass Atrium – 2 male and 2 female located adjacent to the Atrium.
    • For wedding receptions in the Galleria – 2 male, 2 female, 1 family restroom (inc Accessiblity Friendly) located inside ground floor Galleria.

    Utilising the Villa01 – an additional 3 bathrooms within the accommodation. 

  • Can you accommodate physically challenged guests?

    Several Boxwood buildings will have ramps to meet the needs of all guests. Accessiblity Friendly parking is available. Please let your Events Coordinator know if you will be expecting any guests with disability.

  • Do you have signage or other aids to direct guests to my wedding?

    Yes, signs will be placed at each entrance, the service office and carparks.

  • Is there ample parking? Will guests be charged for parking?

    Boxwood can accommodate 10 vehicles in Carpark 1 (next to the Service Office at the bottom of the hill). Villa01 guests have an additional 6 parking spaces adjacent to the Villa. The Galleria will also have parking for 5 cars (including 2 accessibilty friendly places reserved for guests). There will also be over flow parking at the end of the property. All parking is complimentary. 

  • Are your health department and insurance certificates up to date?

    Boxwood meets Tasmanian health codes and carries public liability insurance. 


     

  • How many overnight guests can Boxwood accommodate?

    Villa01:

    Villa01 has 5 Bedrooms, sleeping 8 adults and 4 children.  There's enough room for the whole party!

    1 x Master Bedroom (King Bed) with ensuite bathroom

    1 x Children's Bedroom (2 Bunk Beds + 1 Single) 

    1 x Children's Playroom (1 Single Bed)

    2 x Double Bedroom (Queen Bed) 

    1 x Standard Bedroom (6x2.5m)

    Villa01 rooftop can accommodate a maximum of 30 guests.


    Galleria:

    Connected to Villa01 by skybridge, Galleria has four 1-Bedroom suites with ensuite bathrooms, each sleeping 2 Adults.

  • What are the check-out and check-in times for the Villa01?

    Normally Check-out:  11am

    Check-in: 2pm 


    But for weddings we allow check in 10am and 1pm check out!

  • Is there a shuttle service available?

    We currently do not provide shuttle service.  Please contact your Events Coordinator for special arrangements.

  • Do you have a professional Wedding Planner and Stylist?

    Yes,  we work with Dear Leone, who offers a seamless blend of logistics and aesthetics — delivering highly personal, impeccably styled events that feel effortless and elevated. Gelisa is trusted by couples seeking a professional yet warm guiding hand to bring their wedding vision to life with style and intention. 

  • Who will be our point person prior to the day of our wedding?

    Our Events Coordinator. If you require Wedding Planning services, we will work together to make your day special.

  • Are other events scheduled on the same day?

    We understand that weddings are one of the most important days of your life and therefore only accept one event per day to give you our personal care.  Our staff’s attention will be focused entirely on your event. 

  • What is the back-up plan for rain or inclement weather if using outdoor space?

    We can always move outdoor ceremonies indoors to the Atrium or Galleria.  The Event Coordinator/and Wedding Planner will work with you the day before your wedding to determine if an outdoor or indoor space will be set for the wedding. 

  • What is the last possible date that we can make changes to diagrams and timeline?

    We need just 48 hours if any printed material is involved.  

  • Do you provide assistance with getting gifts or décor to designated cars at the end of the event?

    Yes, the events staff can assist with loading cars, if needed. 

  • What is the deposit required for bookings?

    •    $3,000 deposit is due at time of booking.

    •    A second non-refundable payment of $5,000 is required 120 days prior to the event.

    •    The final balance due 21 days prior to event. 

  • What is the Tentative Booking?

    A tentative booking will be held for seven (7) days under no obligation after which time it will automatically be cancelled.

  • Is the fee cheaper if we don’t book a Saturday night?

    Weekdays (M-TH) usually has lower rates.  Enquire for more details.

  • What is your cancellation policy?

    Cancellations must be provided in writing. Initial deposit and second payment are non-refundable. In relation to amount paid above, the Initial deposit and the second payment:

    •    Within 90 days: an additional charge of 25% of the total cost of the event will apply, along with the Deposit and progressive payment. Any residual amounts paid will be refunded.

    •    Within 30 days: an additional charge of 50% of the total cost of the event will apply, along with the Deposit and progressive payment. Any residual amounts paid will be refunded.

  • How many people can you accommodate for a wedding?

    Boxwood Mount Nelson is a unique site close to Hobart that offers both accommodation and wedding venue. See our description for accommodations:

  • Are there Ceremony location options?

    We offer a variety of ceremony locations:


    The Ceremony Lawn: the main location for wedding ceremonies


    Garden: on each side of the ceremony lawn, we have crafted a refined garden for smaller occasions or for cocktails and canapes


    Glass Atrium: the atrium provides an indoor option for inclement weather (also great for small-medium dinner parties)

  • Can I schedule a Ceremony Rehearsal?

    Of course.  A one-hour rehearsal is available during the week leading up to your wedding day. Please make an appointment time with your Event Coordinator

  • Is there a space for me to get ready?

    Boxwood Villa01 is the perfect place for you to get ready with your bridal party. Check out the lounge 1 & 2 images in the Villa gallery on our website. 

  • What furniture is provided?

    We currently do not provide events furniture as every event is unique and require differnt styles, these must be hired in from suppliers. 

  • Are we allowed to bring in decorations? Including candles?

    Please consult our Events Coordinator – we allow reasonable decorations so long as they don’t damage Boxwood. 


    The Atrium and Galleria will have fasteners to hang floral arrangements and lighting.  Décor may not be affixed to the walls, ceilings, banisters, doors, or stairways (please use fasteners). Nails, hooks, tacks, screws, and bolts may not be used on any surface. Glitter, sprinkles, confetti, rice, birdseed, wheat or similar materials are not allowed (flower petals are allowed!).  Please note the Costs of Repair clauses in terms and conditions.


    In relation to open flames/flammables, we are set in 30 acres of natural bushland and surrounded by another 120 acres, so we are conscious of bushfire risk for our venue and our neighbours. No open flame is permitted on site other than in specified areas made by Boxwood staff.  Flameless real wax candles are always a great idea! Contact your Events Coordinator if you’d like us to arrange these for you.

  • Can I move furniture around to suit my likes?

    We understand that every wedding is custom and we work with you to create personalised layouts for your wedding day.  Some furniture (for example, umbrellas, lounge suites, dining areas) should not be moved and your Events Coordinator will be able to discuss this with you. All decorations and furniture arrangements must be approved and coordinated in advance with the events staff

  • What are the Wedding Ceremony set-up and take down times?

    Set Up: 3 hours prior to guest arrival

    Take Down: midnight.

    If hiring full venue with accomedation, next day or day prior is available. 

  • Who is responsible for setting up and tearing down décor and when?

    Boxwood will set tables, chairs and linens. For other items, please contact our Events Coordinator and Wedding Planner.  Other décor is set by client or vendors starting at 10a.m. the day of the wedding. 

  • Is there an in-house caterer or do you allow outside caterers?

    Boxwood does not have an in-house caterer.  We have partnered with several of Australia’s finest chefs and caterers to provide an approved list for you to choose your preferred cuisine.

  • Is there a food and beverage minimum?

    We are the venue only, it is up to the events party to organsie their catering and drinks. So this depends on the selected approved caterer. Contact individual caterers for more information about F&B minimums.

  • Are plates, silverware, and glassware provided?

    Boxwood does not provide these, must be organsied with your caterer or supplies independtly. 

  • Are there Reception location options?

    Receptions can be held:


    In the Glass Atrium (2027) – 100 standing informal or 60 seated;


    On the lawn (under the stars or in a Marquee); or


    Inside in the Galleria – 140 standing, 100 seated. 

  • What are the check-out and check-in times for the Ceremony and Receptions Atrium/Galleria?

    Boxwood Villa: 1pm


    Boxwood Atrium/Galleria: 10am for set-up


    Ceremony time: Flexible after 1pm


    Access to lawns for ceremony set-up 3 hours prior to guest arrival


    Inclement Weather: Glass atrium or marquee will be available for your ceremony

  • What services & service staff do you provide?

    We have dedicated staff on site during the times set out below, for additional staff please consult our Events Coordinator – we are happy to accommodate most requests! 


    Site – Boxwood reception and service coordinator: 9am to 5pm, 7 days per week. After hours (5pm to 9am) service can be obtained from reception and online.


    Wedding Coordinator – Boxwood has a dedicated wedding coordinator to cater for general site questions and sales. If you require additional Wedding Planning services, please see Wedding Planning.


    Wedding Ceremony & Reception hours – [Parking/guest direction] 2 staff will be on site to handle parking. We also supply bartenders for drinks packages. Otherwise, Boxwood has a preferred list of Vendors (see our Vendor List and consult our Events Coordinator).


    Accommodation cleaning staff – Aligned to our green initiative, all accommodation is cleaned between 10am and 2pm every second day with basic services provided daily. Please contact Boxwood reception if additional services are required.

  • Is there good access for catering and Vendors?

    Yes – both sides of the Ceremony Lawn area provide access for catering and delivery vehicles to the central ceremony area and the Atrium reception room. 

  • Is there coat check?

    Tassie can sometimes be cold. The Galleria has a coat room for your guests to use.  A more formal arrangement can be made by your Wedding Planner.  

  • At what time will my guests and vendors have to leave the facility?

    Guests must exit by 12 a.m. midnight. Vendors and those assisting with tear down must exit by 12:30 a.m with the exception of in house guests. 


    Please note that Boxwood may host other guests on the site outside of the Wedding Area (Villa01, Galleria, Ceremony Lawn, Atrium and Lawn Cube).  For exclusive hire of Boxwood Hotel, please contact your Events Coordinator.

  • Do you have any recommendations for Flowers?

    Yes, please contact our Events Coordinator for our preferred lists

  • Are there restrictions/things to note?

    Security may be required at your cost for events and weddings over 100 guests. Please also see our Terms and Conditions for Accomodation/ use of our Properties.

  • Can we have a DJ or band and dancing?

    Yes, we ask that DJs and bands provide their own sound equipment.  We have multiple 13 and 15amp outlets on site to accommodate DJ and band equipment.
